Powerful treatment for the ideal line - this is how perfect sporty riding can be.
The R 1200 S is the most powerful production boxer ever, with a rated 122 bhp and 83 lb-ft of torque. The new S is also 22 lbs lighter than the previous model.
The compression ratio has been increased to 12.5:1, a phenomenally high figure for such a large engine, and maximum torque is developed at 6,800 rpm. The redline has been raised to 8,000 rpm, also a very high value for an engine of this size.
The styling of the bike is completely new, with a vertically stacked rear under-seat exhaust system, alloy subframe, new bodywork and windscreen, and seat. There are many changes to frame and running gear, featuring non-assisted, non-linked ABS brakes, which are appropriate to a sporting machine of this type.
Options include choice of ABS brakes or not, 6" rear wheel, Ohlins shocks, heated grips and special paint jobs, and the usual assortment of accessories and soft luggage.
The R 1200 S is the bike that won the Moto ST Eight Hours of Daytona endurance race in 2006, so if you want a sport bike with stamina as well as performance, there is no other choice.
